ABOUT THE DIOCESE OF SAGINAW COAT-OF-ARMS

The Catholic Diocese of Saginaw shield first shows the cross of our Faith in red on a silver field. To indicate the name "Saginaw," there is a pentecostal flame placed in each canton of the sheild, for this reason: The name of Saginaw Bay (Saginawa) signifies the country or place of the Sauk. The Sauk Native American tribes were first known to Europeans as "Gens de Feu" (People of Fire). And for the cathedral dedicated to St. Mary and her Assumption, there is placed, on the cross, Our Lady's six-pointed star. In addition to signifying that Our Lady is of the House of David, the six-pointed star also is one of her many heraldic attributes usually shown to indicate the Assumption.
