Application Deadline is August 23, 2007 Each year during Lent, the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw participates in Operation Rice Bowl - a program of prayer, fasting, education and almsgiving. Alms collected through Operation Rice Bowl fund Catholic Relief Services’ development projects overseas.These projects help families produce more food, increase their income and escape abject poverty. Twenty-five percent of Operation Rice Bowl contributions are used locally to address hunger and poverty related needs within our own communities. By recognizing and responding to the immediate needs of those around us, we express solidarity with all of God’s people, especially the poor and vulnerable. Operation Rice Bowl grants were awarded to the following local agencies in 2006:
Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Bay City Council St. Joseph Food Pantry, Bay City Food of Faith, Bay City Project Blessing CPS, Inc., Carsonville Chesaning Area Emergency Relief Coleman Food Pantry Hard Times Café, Harrison Mayville Area Share Shop Homeless Prevention Program of Midland Area Homes Millington Community Center Central Michigan Chapter American Red Cross, Mt. Pleasant Emmaus House, Saginaw The Children’s Christmas Store, Saginaw Southwest Saginaw Village Neighborhood Association Partnership Center, Saginaw Old Town Soup Kitchen, Saginaw Hidden Harvest, Saginaw East Side Soup Kitchen, Saginaw St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Feeding Ministry, Saginaw St. Mary Cathedral Back Door Ministry, Saginaw Office of Human Services, St. Louis Pinconning Area Emergency Food Pantry Saginaw Catholic Mustard Seed House The Goodrow Foundation, Mt.
