Join us for a day of three specific trainings in ministry!
Training 1: In the morning session, Father Pete Gaspeny will lead a training on “how to lead a reflection” – a skill more and more lay people need when leading a vigil for the deceased and on other occasions. Father Gaspeny has recently helped train permanent deacon candidates in homiletics, and will incorporate some of the same principles in his session. Note: Each participant is asked to prepare a four-minute reflection on the readings for a weekday Mass of their choice.
Training 2a: At 12:45 p.m., Father Jim Bessert, Director of the Office of Liturgy, will offer a training on how to lead a weekday liturgical celebration in the absence of a priest for those who are interested in the topic and for those who have been delegated to fill this role by their pastor or pastoral administrator.
Training 2b: Also at 12:25 p.m., Lori Becker from the Christian Service Office will offer a session entitled, “Basic Principles of Pastoral Care.” This training will provide basic skills for those visiting the sick, elderly and/or homebound. Topics include: what to expect during a visit; taking a spiritual assessment; praying with others; listening with the heart; and communication skills.
Note: Participants may choose to do only one of the trainings at a cost of $20 (includes lunch).
