Some Ways to Reach Out to Others

  • Make cards for the nursing homes and assisted living locations that are on lockdown:  Many of the elderly who are used to getting visitors or being able to leave the house are not able to do either right now. Show them you care by sending cards and notes to nursing homes and assisted living locations in your area.
  • Shop for someone who is vulnerable: Think of those in your neighborhood or your church who you might know are in the vulnerable category.  Call them and ask if they need you to go shopping for them so they don't have to risk their health to get groceries and other essentials. Shop and drop things off at the porch for them. Please observe necessary precautions of wiping down packages with disinfectant wipes before leaving them outside someone's door.
  • Pray for the dying and dead: When someone dies they are still in need of our prayer. We pray for God's mercy and their complete conversion to the love of God upon their death. When you see in the news someone has died say some prayers for them. You may also pray for those who are dying. You can pray a Chaplet of Divine Mercy, or a Rosary. Both can be found here.
  • Donate or volunteer: Contact your parish to find financial and other needs to assist with.
  • Call a homebound person: Many, healthy and vulnerable alike, are homebound during this time. You may even be homebound. Make sure you call and talk to others who can not get out and have interactions with others.
  • Make artwork and stick in your windows:  Make different types of artwork and place them in your windows to cheer up those who are going for walks in the neighborhood, or use sidewalk chalk to create artwork or write inspirational messages on your local sidewalks.
  • Set up an online prayer group: Use Zoom, Facebook, Instagram or other methods to setup an online group to gather and pray regularly.
  • Pray for others' intentions: Use social media and other communication methods to ask people for their prayer intentions and pray for them throughout the day. Remember that if you are suffering in any way, you can unite those to the suffering of Christ for additional graces for them.
  • Go on a Rosary Walk: Walk through your neighborhood praying a rosary asking for Mary's protection over the whole neighborhood.
  • Help someone who doesn't know how to stream: If you know someone who is not as good working with technology, call them and ask if they need help learning how to stream a Mass or other devotionals.
  • Share online resources: Share with others any resources you find to learn the faith, pray devotionals, etc.
  • Share physical resources: If you have extra toilet paper, bread, milk, or other necessities that are running low in the stores check with others to see if they are in need and share. Please observe necessary precautions of wiping down packages with disinfectant wipes before leaving them outside someone's door.
