Pastoral Care Ministry

Pastoral Care Training

This training series, presented by the Office of Christian Service was created in response to Pope Francis’ statement in Amoris Laetitia, “Along with pastoral outreach aimed specifically at families, this shows the need for a more adequate formation…of priests, deacons, men and women religious, catechists and other pastoral workers.” Our goal is to assist parishes throughout the Diocese of Saginaw in preparing ministers to provide a continuity of care and enhance this vital ministry of our church.

This series will provide practical training and the establishment of boundaries, with an understanding of the differences between pastoral and social visits. Topics include:

  • Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick or homebound
  • Companion Visitor to the elderly, widowed or lonely
  • End of life and grief support
  • Caregiver support
  • Jail ministry
