A 7-Day Prayer Journey with Bishop Robert Gruss
August 31–September 6
The Diocese of Saginaw invites everyone to join Bishop Robert Gruss for a special seven-day prayer challenge through Hallow, a Catholic prayer app.
The purpose is simple: to pray together and ask God to help each of us embrace our unique calling in life and encourage others to joyfully respond to God's call in their lives.
This prayer challenge is for everyone — married or single, young or old, and regardless of your vocation or stage of life. You do not have to be considering the priesthood or religious life to participate.
During the seven days, you'll pray with Bishop Gruss and hear stories about people discovering God's call in their lives. Each day's prayer is an average of 16 minutes.
The goal is not to tell you what your calling is, but rather to give you time to listen to God and ask Him to help you embrace the unique way He is calling you to live your life.
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD HALLOW
The first step is to download the Hallow app. It's free. Hallow is a Catholic prayer app that offers many different ways to pray.
The reason you are downloading Hallow is to participate in the Diocese of Saginaw's 7-day “Called by Name” prayer challenge with Bishop Gruss.
On your smartphone:
iPhone: Open the App Store
Android: Open Google Play Store
Search for:
Hallow
Download the Hallow app.
STEP 2: CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT
Open Hallow and create a FREE account using your email address or another available sign-in option.
After you download the app, Hallow will ask you several questions about yourself and your prayer preferences. Don't worry — this only takes about 1–2 minutes.
These questions help Hallow customize the app, so it better fits your interests and preferences.
You will then see many different prayer options throughout the app. Don't worry if it looks like there is a lot to choose from. For the Diocese of Saginaw's prayer challenge, you only need to find one thing: Called by Name.
A free account is enough to participate in the Diocese of Saginaw's Called by Name prayer challenge. A premium paid account is available, but you will not need to subscribe to the paid account to access this prayer challenge.
STEP 3: FIND “CALLED BY NAME”
Hallow has many different prayers, programs and options.
Scroll down slowly through the Home screen and look for the heading:
Diocese of Saginaw
Under that heading, you'll see:
Called by Name
This is the Diocese of Saginaw's 7-day prayer challenge led by Bishop Robert Gruss.
Tip: Don't feel like you need to understand everything you see in Hallow. There are many options because Hallow offers many different kinds of prayer. Simply look for Diocese of Saginaw → Called by Name.
Can't Find the Challenge?
If you have downloaded the app, simply click on this link - hallow/collections/3329.com - to open the Challenge.
STEP 4: JOIN THE WAITLIST
You can join the Called by Name waitlist now, even though the prayer challenge doesn't begin until August 31.
When you find Called by Name, look for the button to Join the Waitlist and tap it.
Joining the waitlist lets Hallow know that you want to participate. It also allows you to see the countdown until the prayer challenge begins.
The prayers will become available when the challenge begins on August 31.
Once the challenge starts, one prayer session will be available each day for seven days.
STEP 5: PRESS PLAY AND PRAY
Beginning August 31, open Hallow and return to Diocese of Saginaw → Called by Name.
Choose that day's prayer and tap Play.
Then simply listen and pray along with Bishop Gruss and the other voices guiding you.
The daily prayers are an average of 16 minutes.
That's it!
You don't have to figure out what to pray. Hallow guides you through the entire prayer.
WHAT WILL I BE PRAYING ABOUT?
Each day focuses on different ways God calls people to live out their lives, including:
- Priesthood
- Religious life
- Marriage
- Diaconate
- Consecrated single life
But Called by Name is for everyone.
Whether you are married, single, a parent, retired, a priest, religious or simply trying to discern what God is asking of you at this stage of your life, you are invited to participate.
All participants will pray for God to help them embrace their unique calling in life.
You'll also hear real stories about people discovering God's call in their lives.
On the final day, Bishop Gruss shares his own vocation story.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
The challenge lasts 7 days, from August 31 through September 6.
Each day's prayer is an average of 16 minutes.
Try to set aside a few quiet minutes each day for prayer.
You can pray at home, in the car, or wherever you have a few quiet moments.
ONE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER
Just a reminder: You do NOT need to pay for Hallow to participate in Called by Name.
The challenge will be available to everyone who downloads Hallow, including people using the free version.
You do not need a paid Hallow subscription to participate.
DON'T BE OVERWHELMED BY HALLOW
When you first open Hallow, you may see many different prayers, programs and options.
That's normal.
You don't need to explore everything.
Just remember:
DIOCESE OF SAGINAW → CALLED BY NAME → JOIN THE WAITLIST
Then, beginning August 31:
OPEN HALLOW → CALLED BY NAME → PRESS PLAY → PRAY
