Bishop Gruss has suspended the Decrees of Permanent Closure and Relegation for St. Hyacinth Church

It was announced to parishioners of Our Lady of Czestochowa this weekend that Bishop Robert Gruss has suspended the Decrees Permanent Closure and Relegation for St. Hyacinth Church in Bay City.

The bishop’s office received a “valid appeal” after it was announced earlier this month that St. Hyacinth would close on May 28. Suspending the decrees allows the proper canonical process, including consultation, to take place, Bishop Gruss said.

The last Mass before the closing of St. Hyacinth Church was to take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27 with Bishop Gruss as celebrant.

Instead, Bishop Gruss and parish pastor Fr. Nicolas Coffaro will use that time to meet with registered parishioners at St. Hyacinth Church. The meeting will “allow parishioners to ask questions and to hear from Bishop Gruss,” Coffaro said.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27.

This meeting is only for registered parishioners. Registered parishioners will be asked to sign in at the meeting.

Fr. Coffaro also announced this weekend that the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass will continue at St. Hyacinth without interruption as well as the 6 p.m. Sunday Mass. Both had been scheduled to discontinue after May 28.

There is no set timeline for the decree of suspension. The process will move forward only after proper consultation has taken place.
