Evensong offers prayer through music

Priests and deacons, accompanied by musicians from around the diocese used Scripture, song and visual arts to meditate on the theme of sacrificial love in the annual Evensong event at St. Dominic Parish, St. Stephen Church on Sept. 13. The program title, "There is no greater love, says the Lord, than to lay down your life for a friend," is taken from the hymn "No Greater Love" and reflects the episcopal motto of Bishop Gruss:  No Greater Love, from John 15:13.

The evening's program included Ubi Caritas, Now We Remain and Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, as well as Scripture readings and psalms. Attendees were encouraged to support Mustard Seed Shelter with a freewill offering.

Priests participating in the evening's music included Fathers Stephen Blaxton, percussion; Richard Bokinskie, guitar; Andrew Booms; Robert Byrne; José Maria Cabrera, guitar; John Cotter; Peter Gaspeny; Steven Gavit; Nathan Harburg, guitar; Andrew LaFramboise; John Mancini OSFS; Robert Meissner; Gerald Pehler, OFM Cap. and Ronald Wagner. Deacons Steve George and Timothy Hartwick also participated.
