BANNISTER — As St. Cyril Parish prepares to host the 50th Annual Czechoslovakian Harvest Festival on Sunday, Aug. 2, Father Vincent Oguejiofor is inviting parishioners to begin the celebration at the Lord's table.
In his weekly reflection, Oguejiofor draws a connection between summer family gatherings and the Eucharist, describing every Mass as "the greatest family meal" where Catholics encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ.
"The best conversations happen around the family table—and the greatest Host is always waiting," he wrote, encouraging Catholics to remain faithful to Sunday Mass throughout the summer and to spend time in Eucharistic Adoration.
The Harvest Festival will begin with the Heritage Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cyril Parish in Bannister. A traditional Czech dinner will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with opening ceremonies and folk dancing at 2:30 p.m. and an outdoor street dance beginning at 4 p.m.
"Before we enjoy kolaches, music, dancing and fellowship, we first gather at the Lord's Table to receive the Bread of Life," Oguejiofor wrote. "Festivals come and go, but in the tabernacle Christ remains, faithfully waiting to welcome us to the family meal that never ends."
