As they March for Life, Saginaw Pilgrims to Share Message: “Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman.”

SAGINAW - On Thursday, Jan. 23, nearly 300 local faithful will travel by bus to Washington, D.C. for the world’s largest pro-life event.

Most of the pilgrims are teens and will represent parishes and schools from around the diocese including all three Catholic high schools.

“This pilgrimage is not only an immediate boost of faith,” said Mark Graveline, coordinator of youth ministry for the Diocese of Saginaw. “Our young people share their enthusiasm and love for life within their parish communities upon return, and also carry their experience of standing up for life into adulthood.”

The group will join hundreds of thousands of fellow Catholics and people of all faiths during the 47th Annual March for Life on Friday, Jan. 24. The massive gathering will raise awareness to the more than 60 million babies who have been aborted since the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

As part of the Diocese of Saginaw pilgrimage, participants will spend an evening learning more about the issue of abortion and the sacredness of all human life.

The theme of this year’s March for Life is “Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman.”

“Courageous suffragists like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton who fought for women’s right to vote, also opposed abortion. Pro-lifers should be inspired by the early suffragists who understood the true dignity of women, and that every person, born and unborn, deserves equal rights and protections under the law,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of March for Life.

“The success of the suffragists in achieving a guaranteed right to vote for women gives us hope that one day all persons, born and unborn, will be guaranteed the right to life."

We encourage you pray for our pilgrims and to follow the events of the pilgrimage online. We will post photos on our Facebook page and on our website.
