Update on Ukraine donations: 'The response has already been very generous'

PHOTO: Maria Coss holds a printout of the Ukrainian flag at the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw office where she ministers. Maria is processing donations for Ukraine as they come in. The funds are being sent to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and its partners already in Ukraine and bordering countries that are ready to provide safe shelter, hot meals, hygiene supplies, fuel to keep warm, transport to safe areas, counseling support and more.

"Although collections for Ukraine took place at Diocese of Saginaw parishes very recently on Sunday, March 6 , the response has already been very generous," said Maria Coss, who is working to collect the donations. "I've received calls from people from many cities in Michigan as well as from other states including Minnesota and others. People gave very generously to help tornado victims in Kentucky in December and the response to the suffering in Ukraine may even be greater. We are grateful to pray and offer assistance to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine."

Checks are to be made payable to the Diocese of Saginaw, with Ukraine written in the memo. The funds will then be sent to CRS and its partners already in Ukraine and bordering countries, ready to provide safe shelter, hot meals, hygiene supplies, fuel to keep warm, transport to safe areas, counseling support and more.
