Preparing for Marriage

The Church encourages couples to invest time and energy into the essential preparation for their married life together. This helps couples develop a better understanding of the sacrament, to evaluate and deepen their readiness to live married life and to gain insights into themselves as individuals and as a couple.

Marriage Preparation Options

Your pastor will help you determine the appropriate marriage preparation approach. Most times this will include meeting with him as well as additional preparation with a mentor couple and/or participating in a marriage preparation workshop. The Diocese of Saginaw offers marriage preparation workshops four (4) times a year in Saginaw. Find more detail on the events page.

  • If either the bride or groom is not Catholic and/or unbatized, consult with your pastor to discuss details. Additional information can be found here.

Couples preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony should consult with their pastor to determine their requirement for Natural Family Planning (NFP) education. An introduction class is highly suggested for all couples prior to marriage. For more information, review some options here.
