Last March, I shared in my Great Lakes Bay Catholic column that we cannot continue to do what we have always done to meet the current challenges and realities faced by our Diocese and the Church today. The steady decline of people living and practicing their faith dramatically affects not only the Diocese , but also our local communities.

Finding and Burying Again
The Church has just entered into a Jubilee Year with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” It is an opportunity for us to enter more deeply into the joy of our salvation. The gift Jesus brings is inexhaustible and the source of an unshakable hope. He is with us. The Diocese will be offering several ways for us to enter into this beautiful year of grace.

History of Permanent Deacons in Diocese of Saginaw on Feast Day of Saint Stephen Dec 26th
Saint Stephen is recognized as the first Christian martyr and one of the original seven deacons appointed by the Apostles, as detailed in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 6:1-6). He is the patron saint of deacons. On his feast day (Dec. 26th) we invite you to explore the history of the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese which was just recently published and hear the Faith Journey of Deacon Dale.

United in Mission: One Heart and Mind Podcast Episode 5 with Fr. Andy LaFramboise
John Gonzalez and Fr. Andy share their roles in the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw and their goal to recruit 20 seminarians by 2030, up from the current four. They discuss the vocation campaign, which received 125 submissions from a diverse group of parishioners. The importance of fostering a culture of invitation is highlighted, along with the discernment process that involves prayer and guidance.

These words from St. Paul to the Church of Rome bring forth the central message of the coming Jubilee Year as announced by Pope Francis, set to begin on Dec. 24. The forthcoming Jubilee can help a great deal to restore a climate of hope and trust, as a sign of a new renaissance that we all perceive as urgent.”
