Bishop Robert Gruss will offer Sunday Mass honoring Pope Leo XIV at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 11 at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw. All are welcome. The Mass for the conclave originally scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 8 at the Cathedral has been cancelled.

Cardinal Robert F. Prevost, the 69-year-old Chicago-born prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops under Pope Francis, was elected the 267th pope May 8 and took the name Pope Leo XIV. He is the first North American to be elected pope.
Pope Leo XIV's connection to Michigan
Cardinal Robert Prevost graduated from St. Augustine Seminary High School in 1973 near Holland, Michigan. The school operated from 1949 to 1977. Today it is the site of the Felt Mansion.
