Don Buchalski has accepted the position of Vicariate Liaison and Coordinator of Evangelization. In his new position, Don will be the human bridge between the resources of the diocesan offices and an assigned vicariate, its parishes, and lay leaders with respect to pastoral resources.
As a Vicariate Liaison, Don, will have direct parish contact including attending the assigned vicariate meetings, listening to and assessing needs within and among vicariates.
As Coordinator of Evangelization, Don will regularly communicate with all parish leaders in order to inspire personal engagement with Our Lord Jesus Christ; advise parish leaders on ways to effectively communicate with parishioners, including utilization of electronic media to foster reverence for God, parish unity and mission, mutual respect and hospitality; and consult with leaders in designing parish-based programs to reach beyond membership for effective dialogue. He will also promote spiritual growth of all people and assist with evangelization in diocesan events and offerings.
Don is very passionate about evangelization and discipleship and has had the opportunity to work in this ministry in the Archdiocese of Detroit as a Missionary in the Missionary Strategic Planning Department over the last two years. Previously, Don developed and used his business skills in strategic planning, marketing, and business development at Dow Corning Corporation for 31 years and Michigan State University for two years. Don is excited to have the opportunity to combine the passion for his faith with his work experiences to live out his calling.
Don and his wife Chris, have been married for 29 years and have five children. Don and Chris have recently completed Lay Ministry Formation and will be commissioned in October. They are parishioners at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Midland Michigan. Don has served in many capacities in his 35 years at Blessed Sacrament and currently is a sacristan, lector, and helps coordinate the Men’s Mornings of Reflections. Don is also active in outreach and has participated in Youth Encounter Service (YES) as well as missionary trips to Guatemala and Uganda.
Don will transition into his new role effective October 11, 2021.
