The Most Rev. Walter A. Hurley, Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Saginaw, would like to share the following video to keep the faithful informed regarding efforts towards protection and healing related to clergy abuse.
"These past months have been incredibly difficult for victims of sexual abuse by clergy and others, especially in light of recent news reports that reopen painful wounds and revisit a tragic past. I am deeply sorry for the pain and suffering of every victim.
I want to assure you, we respect and support the dedicated work of law enforcement and will continue to cooperate with them. We have communicated all allegations we received to date to law enforcement and I look forward to further discussions with law enforcement. Working together is the best way to strong solutions.
I am not aware of any of our 89 priests, who are faithfully serving in the Diocese, who face an allegation of abuse of a minor. When and if we become aware of an allegation, the accused would be immediately placed on administrative leave.
I urge anyone that has reason to believe abuse has occurred – please notify law enforcement so the appropriate action can be taken.
These are difficult times for everyone – victims and their families, the church and our community. The Diocese of Saginaw will continue to support the healing of victims, protect our children and ensure justice is served."
