Sarah Messing has accepted the position of Vicariate Liaison and Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministry. In her new position, Sarah will be the human bridge between the resources of the diocesan offices and Vicariate 3, its parishes, and lay leaders with respect to pastoral resources.
As a Vicariate Liaison, Sarah, will have direct parish contact including attending the assigned vicariate meetings, listening to and assessing needs within and among vicariates.
As Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministry, Sarah will develop leadership training for all parishes to use with those involved with youth and young adult ministry. She will initiate and support diocesan and parish youth and young adult programs and coordinate diocesan or vicariate-wide ministry to young adults, especially on college and university campuses. She will work with and regularly participate in opportunities for youth and young adults to be enriched in the liturgy, to develop a deep prayer life, and to learn and share their faith and faith stories in a peer community.
For the past 18 years, Sarah has been employed as a middle school teacher with Reese Public Schools and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with a Certification in Secondary Education from SVSU. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from SVSU.
Sarah and her husband, Kerry, have been married for 18 years and have three children, ages 14, 10 and 8, so this area of ministry is very dear to her heart. They are parishioners at St. Elizabeth of Hungary, in Reese, where Sarah has been a life-long member. Sarah is active in her parish community having served on the Parish, Finance and Stewardship committees. She is very excited to bring her professional and faith life together as she begins her ministry here in the Diocese of Saginaw.
Sarah transitioned into her new role effective February 28, 2022.
