Statement from Bishop Cistone on "Amoris Laetitia"

It is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to reading Pope Francis' papal document, Amoris Laetitia, "The Joy of Love." This document brings together the results of the two synods on the family, which sought extensive consultation from members of our global Church community on the complexity of modern family life. Based on a summary look at the document, Pope Francis is challenging us to be understanding in the face of complex and painful situations. He desires to change hearts and pastoral practices in our approach to reaching out to all people. The very title,"The Joy of Love," is a reminder of the beauty and joy of family life, despite its challenges. I welcome this document and look forward to reading the insights of our Holy Father as he calls us to approach the weak with compassion, and not judgment, to "enter into the reality of other people's lives and to know the power of tenderness."
