BAY CITY- Today, students from All Saints Central Catholic Schools in Bay City gathered to pray the Rosary on the same morning the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case which could overturn Roe v. Wade and legalized abortion in the United States.

During the Rosary, students prayed for each Supreme Court justice by name. Father Josè Maria Cabrera, pastor of All Saints Parish in Bay City, led the Rosary prayers which were adapted from a Novena prayer written by Paige Kutas, an eighth grader from St. Mary School in Charlotte, Mich.

Bishop Robert Gruss encouraged the faithful across the Diocese of Saginaw to participate in a day of prayer and fasting on December 1.

“Our continued commitment to protect the sanctity of life for almost 50 years has finally brought us to the realization that an end to abortion may be near,” said Coordinator of Diocesan Outreach Lori Becker.

Since a decision in this case likely won’t come until June 2022, prayer and fasting will be encouraged on the 22nd of each month going forward. Next month, January 22, 2022 marks the 49th year since the Roe v. Wade ruling.

The case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization is a challenge to Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act, which prohibits all abortions, with few exceptions, after 15 weeks. In order to uphold that law, the State of Mississippi is seeking to overturn the two historic legal decisions which established America’s current abortion law: Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992).

“Now is the time for the Church to prepare to be a welcoming and loving presence to those facing a crisis pregnancy,” Lori said. “Our Walking with Moms in Need Ministry encourages and strengthens a woman’s confidence in raising her child by helping her establish trusting relationships and providing the necessary support from the parish community. Please continue to pray for an end to abortion and that all women will know God’s Love is waiting for them and is made present in those willing to walk with them and accompany them on their journey.”
